Useful starting points.
Matters to consider before entering Pakistan.
Does a Japanese company need to incorporate a Pakistani subsidiary?
Not necessarily. Appropriate structures depend on the proposed activities, commercial presence, ownership arrangements, regulatory requirements and tax position. The structure must be assessed before commitments are made.
Can a Japanese investor form a joint venture with a local partner?
A proposed joint venture requires review of the corporate structure, sector requirements, partner arrangements, governance, finance and exit provisions. Contractual and regulatory conditions depend on the transaction.
Can the Desk advise on a dispute arising from a supply or construction contract?
Potentially, subject to conflict checks and agreed instructions. The contract, governing law, dispute resolution provisions, notices, payment records and applicable deadlines should first be reviewed.
A clear legal position
before the next commitment.
Send a brief account of the investment, operating issue or dispute. We will review the proposed instruction and suitable next steps. An enquiry does not establish a lawyer–client relationship; confidential materials should be provided only after appropriate arrangements are made.
